True to her passion for nutrition and traditional foods, Deepa Vinay’s journey has been one of constantly seeking new ways to bring wholesome, natural nourishment to families, unbound by convention.
Born and raised in India, Deepa’s path to founding Mumsome Foods began not in the kitchen, but in the world of science. A biotechnology professional and microbiologist, she moved to the UK, where her academic pursuits took an unexpected turn when she became a mother.
In 2012, with her son born prematurely, Deepa put her Master’s studies on hold to focus on his care. It was during this time that she discovered the power of traditional millet and nut based weaning foods, a childhood staple passed down through generations. Recognising a gap in the market for authentic, natural porridge mixes, she began experimenting with recipes - first for her own child, then for family and friends, and eventually for a growing community of like-minded parents.
By 2020, in the midst of a global pandemic, Deepa turned her passion into a business with purpose by launching Mumsome Foods, bringing vegan millet and nut products to families across the UK.
Today, as a mother, entrepreneur, and scientist, Deepa continues to challenge norms, push boundaries, and grow, proving that tradition and innovation can go hand in hand. Her husband Vinay Jalla helps with the logistics at Mumsome Foods. It’s a team effort!
